ABOUT ME

Hi everyone my name is Sia Mahajan, attending Cal State LA with a Pre-Nursing major!

I was never one of those kids who were scared of visiting the doctor’s office, but in fact, it was the highlight of my day — and skipping school was not the only reason for this. I watched in awe as my doctor gave me my check-ups, and the best part, lollipops. Because of these visits, all my childhood memories consist of me dressing up as a doctor to examining my  Build-A-Bears and heal them with my toy stethoscope, thermometer, or a blood pressure cuff. Soon my imaginary patients were not enough. I wanted to help real people just like my nurses, and at seven years of age, I had known what I want to do for the rest of my life.

Once high school began, I noticed that many students were on the fence or had misconceptions about thier career paths.  Work that does not bring joy obstructs enjoyment in life and damages mental and physical wellbeing. I believe that all stages of life should be relished and this starts by finding a passion, which is what this blog brings to me.

The Monthly Checkup’s mission is to inform and inspire high schoolers who are considering a career in medicine, and to provide a platform of ample information on physical and mental health and wellbeing. Using this website I aim to educate readers on health problems and solutions, foster a positive environment by supporting readers through negative mental states, and help to demystify the pathway to a healthcare profession.
